Why should I get my furniture reupholstered?
There are many reasons! The fabric may be worn or damaged, it may be outdated or clashing with your redesign. You may have structural damage to the frame, or you are no longer pleased with the performance of your cushions. You may love the size and comfort of your piece but are simply wishing for something "new". No matter the reason, reupholstering leads to one fewer item in the landfill and a "brand new" piece for your home.
What are the benefits to getting a piece reupholstered?
Reupholstering a piece of furniture is a win-win: you get a chance to customize it while also extending its lifespan. Having a professional give a personal touch to furniture that typically (though not always) comes from mass manufacturing can give it structural improvements to ensure many years of use. You would (or perhaps wouldn't) be surprised at the ways in which factories will cut corners when it comes to the build of your furniture.
I can't get my piece out of my home, do you offer on-site reupholstery?
Short answer: Yes!
Long answer: There is typically an on-site consultation needed to go over the feasibility of reupholstering within your home. This will include scheduling, pricing, and hopefully answer any further questions you have. This is a very common practice within the industry and one I have experience in!
You talk about "Landfill Diversion" - what is that and why is it important to you?
Landfill Diversion is part of reduce, reuse, recycle a.k.a. waste prevention. As it pertains to furniture and household objects, it is the process of fixing, restoring, and reusing to give new life to something that is destined for a landfill (a place where garbage is buried within the Earth). One of the reasons I wanted to learn and practice upholstery was the idea that furniture is too often discarded when all it needs is a professional to spend some time with it. As far back as I have been in fabrication spaces I have found the reuse of discarded materials to be a motivating cause creatively.
